Safer Society’s 2009 North American survey reports on the responses from more than 1,370 residential and community sexual abuser treatment programs for male and females adults, adolescents, and children. This report provides a wide-angle snapshot of the state of the field, and identifies trends in the assessment and treatment of sexual abusers. Both the current practices and trends are compared with what research and professional associations presently consider “best practice” in the field. Areas requiring additional research are identified and suggestions for program development and evaluation are included. As well as broadening the geographic scope to include Canada, this edition also probes public policy issues and includes the treatment theories Risk, Need, and Responsivity; Self-Regulation, and Good Lives. Sex Offender Treatment Intervention and Progress Scale (SOTIPS), October 2013

The Sex Offender Treatment Intervention and Progress Scale (SOTIPS) is a 16-item dynamic measure designed to aid clinicians, correctional caseworkers, and probation and parole officers in assessing risk, treatment and supervision needs, and progress among adult male sex offenders. The SOTIPS can be used as part of a static and dynamic risk assessment scheme, either with the Vermont Assessment of Sex Offender Risk-2 (VASOR-2; available on the Safer Society website) or other static risk instruments.

The Vermont Assessment of Sex Offender Risk-2 (VASOR-2) is designed to assess risk among convicted adult male sex offenders. It is composed of a 12-item Reoffense Risk Scale and a 4-item Severity Factors Checklist. The Reoffense Risk Scale is statistically derived and is designed to assess risk for sexual and violent recidivism. The Severity Factors Checklist is clinically derived and is designed to describe the severity of sex offenses. The VASOR-2 can be used in conjunction with the Sex Offender Treatment Intervention and Progress Scale (SOTIPS: available on the Safer Society website) as part of a static and dynamic risk assessment scheme.
