Webinar Recording: International Perspectives on Working With Those Who Have Sexually Abused

In 2021, the Council of Europe (with Professor McCartan as one of its two experts) released a series of recommendations on the assessment, treatment, and management of people accused and/or convicted of a sexual offense. These recommendations address the role of treatment, the viability of trauma-informed practice; the role of the client’s, or service user’s, voice; balancing public health and criminal justice goals; the viability and ethics of restorative justice; and the opportunities for community engagement. In this webinar, we’ll examine the implications of these recommendations and explore some of the opportunities and challenges presented by them. This webinar will highlight a research insights paper authored by Professor McCartan that frames the Council of Europe recommendations in the current UK context.
