Online Training Description:

Conducting psychosexual assessment and treatment with children and adolescents who have autism spectrum disorders (ASD) can be rife with challenges. Research and best practices have changed dramatically across the past two decades. 

This online training will help professionals develop a deeper understanding of autism among children and adolescents as a multi-faceted, brain-based disorder and provide guidance on current best practices in ASD psychosexual assessment and treatment.

2) Biopsychosocial factors
3) Neuroanatomical factors
4) Functional behavioral analysis
5) Paraphilia versus counterfeit deviance
6) Qualities of adults who are successful with ASD clients
7) Language considerations: labeling versus person-first language
8) Commonly reported problematic sexual behaviors among children and adolescents with ASD

As a result of this training, participants will be able to:
1) Describe how children and adolescents on the autism spectrum perceive the complex socio-sexual environment they live in.
2) Identify the key elements of a comprehensive, best-practice psychosexual risk assessment for neuroatypical children and adolescents who have engaged in problematic sexual behaviors.
3) Implement treatment options for neuroatypical children, youth and adolescents.
4) Explain the differences between emerging paraphiliac and “counterfeit deviance.”
5) Describe developmental insults that lead to problematic sexual behaviors in children and adolescents.

Four Hours of Training

The training session starts at 11:00 am Eastern Time and runs until 3:30 pm. The charge is $120. Each registration includes a certificate, whether it be for CE credits hours or for attendance. To be eligible for a certificate, you must attend the entire live training and complete an evaluation form within 24 hours following the live event.

Continuing Education Credit Hours

Continuing Excellence, LLC is approved by the American Psychological Association (APA) to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Continuing Excellence, LLC maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

Assessment and Treatment of Children and Adolescents on the Autism Spectrum has been approved by NBCC for NBCC credit. Continuing Excellence is solely responsible for all aspects of the program. NBCC Approval No. SP-4001.

Assessment and Treatment of Children and Adolescents on the Autism Spectrum, Course #4380, is approved by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program to be offered by Continuing Excellence LLC. as an individual course. Individual courses, not providers, are approved at the course level. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. ACE course approval period: 08/19/2022 - 08/19/2024. Social workers completing this course receive 4 Clinical continuing education credits.

Dr. Guidry is a licensed clinical and forensic psychologist practicing across the New England region and specializing in the effective assessment, treatment, and risk management of individuals who perpetrate sexual violence, engage in problematic sexual behaviors and in the prevention and elimination of sexual violence.  Dr. Guidry has expertise in working with sexual offenders/abusers who present with co-morbid psychiatric conditions, neurodevelopmental and intellectual developmental disorders, and histories of trauma. Dr. Guidry is the Past President of the Massachusetts Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers (MATSA), serving in that role for 10 years. She is published in the field and is active in efforts to inform public policy on rational, evidence-based, and comprehensive approaches to maximizing public safety through the effective treatment and management of sex offenders.  In 2017, she was honored by MATSA/MASOC with a career service award in recognition of her work to end sexual abuse and sexual violence.
