This training addresses current practices in the assessment, treatment, safety planning, and clarification in working with adolescent clients who have engaged in sexually harmful behaviors, as well as how to overcome some of the unique challenges of this work. The content is informed by the guidelines created by the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers (ATSA), which are based on the principles of risk, need, and responsivity.
The presentation will begin with a discussion of the rates of sexual recidivism among these adolescents. Ms. Pryor will next facilitate a discussion of common pitfalls experienced by those working with this population. During this segment, attendees will be encouraged to bring up issues they have faced in their own practice. Ms. Pryor will next present best practices for safety planning, and she will explore processes related to family reunification.

As a result of this training, participants will be better able to:
1) Identify best practices for completing a risk assessment for an adolescent who has engaged in harmful sexual behaviors.
2) Explain best practices for treatment for an adolescent who has engaged in harmful sexual behaviors.
3) Identify best practices for safety planning for an adolescent who has engaged in harmful sexual behaviors.
4) Apply best practices for clarification/reunification for an adolescent who has engaged in harmful sexual behaviors.
Four Hours of Training
The training session starts at 11:00 am Eastern Time and runs until 3:30 pm. The charge is $120. Each registration includes a certificate, whether it be for CE credits hours or for attendance. To be eligible for a certificate, you must attend the entire live training and complete an evaluation form within 24 hours following the live event.

Continuing Education Credit Hours

Overcoming Common Issues in Treating Adolescents Who Have Engaged in Sexually Harmful Behavior, Course #4264, is approved by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program to be offered by Continuing Excellence LLC. as an individual course. Individual courses, not providers, are approved at the course level. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. Amanda L. Pryor, MSW, LCSW, CSAYC
Amanda Pryor, MSW, LCSW, CSAYC is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over eighteen years of experience. She is a graduate of Indiana University School of Social Work. Her specialty is working with adolescents who have engaged in sexually harmful behavior. She is the Director and is credentialed with IN-AJSOP, Indiana’s Initiative to Advance the Treatment of Sexually Maladaptive Youth. Currently, as the director of IN-AJSOP she provides credentialing services for professionals in field of sexual maladaptive behaviors. Amanda is also the Juvenile Representative on the ATSA Board.
